The Biggest Loser finds a winner but future in doubt

There was a big winner in last night’s The Biggest Loser – but the future of the show is in doubt.

Ararat man Craig Booby won this year’s The Biggest Loser: Challenge Australia, shedding 43.51 per cent of his body weight.

The 34-year-old was this year’s heaviest male contestant at 183.4 kilograms. He left the competition 79.8 kilograms lighter.

The sales manager has now vowed to find love after winning the show.

Channel Ten is also looking for love, after a season of poor ratings for the once-popular show.

Channel Ten is yet to commit to another series of The Biggest Loser which has struggled to find an audience against My Kitchen Rules and The Block: Fans v Faves.

“An announcement regarding the next season of The Biggest Loser will be made later in the year,” a Ten spokesperson said.

In an interview with The Australian last week Ten CEO Hamish McLennan revealed that the current season of Loser actually finished shooting nine months ago.

“Some of the franchises that rode off the back of Sochi like The Biggest Loser are getting towards the end of their life cycle, and much of the content was in the can nine months ago, so we have to run it out,” he said.

Booby takes home a $75,000 cash prize for his win.

The Ararat community – where the show was partially filmed – lost a total of 40,000 kilograms, ahead of the town’s 26,000 kilogram target.

The town was selected to feature in The Biggest Loser as it is one of Australia’s fattest communities.
