This week, Julie Bishop and Hillary Clinton give new meaning to the phrase “power dressing” while LeBron James reveals his weird tactic for winning games.
The Bishop brooch
Julie Bishop is one stylish lady.
It’s no secret female politicians are unfairly scrutinised for their appearance, but Ms Bishop manages to avoid criticism with her winning combination of chic skirts and jackets in muted colours.
She tends to play it fairly safe, but there’s one area where Ms Bishop likes to really express herself – her signature brooch.
Ms Bishop has never met a brooch she doesn’t like and has one for every occasion.
There’s her United Nations brooch (the circular shape implies unity obviously):
Then there’s her funeral brooch, a more subdued piece which she wore to Malcolm Fraser’s memorial:
She’s also got a “let’s all get along brooch” to help maintain decorum in Parliament:
Here, see Ms Bishop smile to contain her disdain at being forced to pose with a brooch competitor:
And it doesn’t end there – check out the full extent of Ms Bishop’s brooch collection below:
There’s a brooch for every mood (notice the tiny violin at top left) proving Ms Bishop’s love for brooches is reaching addiction-level infatuation, possibly requiring an intervention.
Maybe someone should broach the subject with her?
Hillary Clinton’s pantsuit passion
Presidential candidate and former First Lady Hillary Clinton made her Instagram debut this week with the most appropriate photo ever: a rack of pantsuits.
Amongst her many other impressive achievements, Mrs Clinton is known for rocking power suits in bright colours.
Let us take a moment to reflect on this 2010 stunner:
For her Instagram post, Mrs Clinton thoughtfully ensured her pantsuits were hung in the same colour configuration as the United States’ flag.
You heard it hear first: patriotic pantsuits are fashion’s next big trend.
LeBron’s unconventional motivational tactics
The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently battling their way through the NBA Finals, and team player LeBron James isn’t about to let them lose their spirit.
Just how does James ensure his teammates, including Australian Matthew Dellavedova, stay motivated?
He gives them free haircuts and Apple Watches! Duh.
According to Cleveland.com, before the Finals opener – held last Friday (AEST) – the team gathered in a lounge James had rented out to talk tactics.
At the meeting, James not only organised food and music, he also provided a private barber so his teammates could get fresh haircuts before hitting the court.
On top of that, James distributed Apple Watches to every player (courtesy of Beats) and personally gifted Samsung Galaxy Edge phones to everyone too.
This isn’t a one-off either – James apparently showers his buddies with gifts regularly.
“I don’t know how he does it, but every day it’s something different,” J.R. Smith said of the swag.
“Watches, sneakers, Beats, hoodies, book-bags. Man, I can’t wait to come back next year. I want to see what we’re getting next year.”
A particular highlight for the team was when James turned up with WWE championship belts for all over a year ago.
Oh, to be an NBA player.
