Australian musician Conway Savage has died aged 58.

Best known as a piano and organ player for Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Savage had a long and prolific career, also playing with Happy Organs, The Feral Dinosaurs and Dust on the Bible.

Music website Noise11 was first to report Savage’s passing, with tributes flowing in from throughout the Australian music community.

Savage first joined the Bad Seeds in 1990, but sat out recent tours after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. The band had said Savage returned to Australia for follow-up treatment after an operation.

Savage’s most recent solo work was Pussy’s Bow in 2010 although he was often a guest performer for a diverse variety of Australian artists.
