Song of the week: Better Man
Better Man by Leon Bridges
The artist: Bridges is a 27-year-old gospel and soul singer-songwriter from Fort Worth, Texas.
A former dance major at college, he worked as a dishwasher until he was signed by Colombia Records last year.
The vibe: A delightfully simple throwback doo-wop tune reminiscent of the late, great soul singers of the 1950s and ’60s.
Listen to it when: You need to mentally escape from a crowded peak-hour train or you need a relaxing backing track to a winter pasta-cooking session.
Sounds like: Otis Redding, John Legend, Norah Jones and Sam Cooke.
Buy it: Bridges’ album Coming Home is available for preorder now here. Better Man is available to purchase as a single on the iTunes store.
