Coldplay will reward 1600 lucky fans with a small public concert in Sydney on June 19.

The band have announced the short promotional visit and chosen an intimate venue for the performance: Sydney’s 1600-capacity Enmore Theatre in Newtown.

They usually play stadium gigs for crowds of hundreds of thousands.

Pre-sale tickets to the one-off gig are set to go on sale May 19, with a limit of two tickets per person.

In an effort to thwart scalpers, the tickets will be sent to concert-goers on the day of the performance by email.

Coldplay’s five-day visit (from June 16 to 21) is to mark the release of their new album Ghost Stories.

The band’s frontman, Chris Martin, recently made headlines after he split from his wife of 10 years, Gwyneth Paltrow.

Many critics are describing Ghost Stories as a breakup album, with The New Daily‘s Myke Bartlett writing that Martin “does his best to be optimistic, but only sounds like a sad bloke moping into his cocoa”.

Currently the band have no plans to tour other Australian cities.

My Live Nation pre-sale begins 2pm Monday May 19 with a fixed allocation.

General public tickets available from 10am Tuesday 20 May on coldplay.com and livenation.com
