Actor Margot Robbie has shared a promotional picture for her upcoming Quentin Tarantino flick showing her looking uncannily like doomed star Sharon Tate.

Robbie’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood poster, shared to Instagram, was simply captioned “Hollywood. 1969,” and tagged #OnceUponATimeInHollywood.

It came a day after co-star Leonardo DiCaprio tweeted the first poster, for Tarantino’s ninth movie, featuring himself as fading western star Rick Dalton and Brad Pitt as Dalton’s stuntman, Cliff Booth.

Dalton and Booth – two faded stars – are the leads in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a Pulp Fiction-esque series of stories set in and around Los Angeles in 1969.

Tate is Dalton’s famous next-door neighbour. An actress married to director Roman Polanski, she was one of the Manson family’s first known victims.

Eight months pregnant at the time, Tate died in a brutal mass killing at her home in the Hollywood Hills, alongside heiress Abigail Folger and friends Voytek Frykowsk, Jay Sebring and Steven Parent.

Alongside Robbie, Pitt and DiCaprio, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood  has appearances from Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Dakota Fanning, James Marsden, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth, Timothy Olyphant, Damian Lewis, Lena Dunham, Emile Hirsch, Scoot McNairy, James Remar, Brenda Vaccaro and Bruce Dern.

Dern stepped into a role that had been intended for his friend Burt Reynolds, who died in September 2018. Luke Perry also filmed a role in this film before he died earlier in March.

The trailer for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is expected to be released later this week.

The movie opens in the US on July 26 and is due for release in Australia in August.
