A new trilogy of Harry Potter films could be destined for our screens, with rumours that Warner Brothers is seeking the rights to produce a three-part series based on a JK Rowling-penned script.

Citing sources “close to Warner Brothers”, the New York Daily News reported that “Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled”.

While the plan seems to be to bring the spin-off series to the big screen as soon as 2020, the production company’s apparent desire for Daniel Radcliffe to reprise his role as an older Harry could prove difficult.

The actor has since moved on from taking primarily mainstream roles and has repeatedly said he has no plans of being ‘The Boy Who Lived’ again.

The report followed news that punters were paying up to $14,000 for a single ticket to the West End stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is currently running at London’s Palace Theatre until at least December 2017.

It runs for five hours and is split into two parts, perhaps indicating to movie studios that it would work better as films if broken into three parts.

The play was also released as a complete script in book form earlier this year, touted as the canon part eight of the Hogwarts narrative.

Harry Potter Cursed Child Book Launch

Potter fans snatch up copies of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child a little after midnight on launch night.

The script focuses on Harry Potter’s family 19 years after his magical high school adventures and portrays the hero as an overworked corporate employee.

It was written by Jack Thorne with the help of the series’ original writer JK Rowling.

While it is part eight of the written series, it will be the 10th film in the series overall, thanks to two-part finale Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as well as spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, slated for a November 17 release date.

Rowling is also set to release a series of spin-off Ebooks focusing on secondary characters in the Potter universe.
