Adventure show MacGyver is getting a reboot.

Film studio Lionsgate announced plans on Tuesday to re-imagine the 1980s hit show into a Hollywood blockbuster to analysts on Tuesday, according to Variety.

MacGyver ran from 1985–1992 in the US and abroad, charting the adventures of secret agent Angus MacGyver as he managed to solve most problems with his Swiss army knife.

Trained as a scientist, Agent MacGyver travelled with the bomb detection squad and preferred to find non-violent resolutions to problems.

MacGyver’s ability to solve impossibly difficult situations in a matter of minutes was a drawcard for the show, while it was also target for parody.

The show gained a new generation of fans thanks to its constant references in animated show The Simpsons, in which Marge’s sisters Selma and Patty are obsessed with main character, Richard Dean Anderson.

It has also been parodied on sketch show Saturday Night Live.

The reboot could be a welcome surprise hit for the studio, which was forced to announce less than stellar earnings in the past year.

Although responsible for The Hunger Games, one of the decade’s highest-grossing franchises, Lionsgate’s shares half halved in value since the same quarter in 2015.
