Tatum strips off in ‘Flashdance’ reboot

The trailer for Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to the 2012 blockbuster movie Magic Mike, has been released and has immediate connections to the 1980s classic Flashdance.

Channing Tatum, the star and producer of the film that is based on his early life, returns as stripper Mike Lane, who had abandoned his dance career at the end of the first film.

Oscar winning actor Matthew McConaughey, who also starred in Magic Mike, will not be returning, but many members of the original cast are, including Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias.

They will be joined by Hunger Games actress Elizabeth Banks, Jada Pinkett Smith, Amber Heard, Andie MacDowell and rapper Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover).

For a film about male strippers, the 2012 blockbuster hit Magic Mike was certainly at times dark and depressing. It seems like this one might have a happier ending for Mike.

Warner Brothers studio, who is releasing the film, gave details of the sequel in September, 2014.

“Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, ‘Magic Mike XXL’ finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel,” the statement said.

“But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them.

“On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.”
