Mockingjay still flying at Aussie box office

Another week. Another No.1 place for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

The new Hunger Games movie starring Jennifer Lawrence and Australian Liam Hemsworth showed no sign of waning as it continued to fly at the top spot for a third weekend in a row.

Mockingjay – Part 1 took another $3 million from Thursday to Sunday, bring its total to $25.7 million, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.

It was enough to keep Ridley Scott’s new epic Exodus: Gods & Kings, from reigning over the box office.

The movie, starring Aussies Joel Edgerton and Ben Mendelsohn alongside Christian Bale, debuted in second place.

Meanwhile Australians were apparently doing very well, as another Hollywood movie starring a home-grown actor (Ed Oxenbould) took third.

That movie was Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day, which also stars Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner.

Meanwhile Interstellar landed in fourth, while Nightcrawler, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, snatched fifth.

My Old Lady snuck up one spot to sixth, while comedy Let’s Be Cops dropped three rungs to seventh and Gone Girl slipped two places to No.8.

In ninth was Fat Pizza vs Housos while Pride climbed back one place from last weekend to claim tenth.
