Brad Pitt’s ‘Fury’ takes No.1 on Aust box office

It took the combined efforts of a tank and Brad Pitt to finally move Gone Girl from the top spot on the Australian box office over the weekend.

WWII tank movie Fury, starring Pitt alongside Logan Lerman and Shia LaBeouf, debuted at No.1 on the local box office with $2.557 million, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.

It pushed Gone Girl into second place, with $2.186 million.

Meanwhile new entry This Is Where I Leave You, starring comedy A-listers Tina Fey and Jason Bateman, claimed third spot.

They pushed Melissa McCarthy’s comedy Tammy down one spot to fourth, while Liam Neeson’s thriller Walk Among The Tombstones fell three places to No.5.

New Bollywood flick Happy New Year debuted in sixth place.

On the downslide was horror film Annabelle, a spin-off/prequel to The Conjuring, which fell three spots to seventh.

It wasn’t the only one to slide downwards, with action origin film Dracula Untold down two spots to eighth and Robert Downey Jr’s drama The Judge, slipping four rungs to ninth place.

Rounding out the ladder was The Maze Runner, dropping three spots but still hanging on to come in at number 10.
