It was a case of Meghan in the middle when the royal sisterhood made an appearance at the women’s singles final at Wimbledon.

Appearing chummy and relaxed, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle watched the game from the Royal Box with sister-in-law Kate Middleton and Kate’s sister Pippa.

The duchesses smiled and chatted with Pippa Matthews as they watched the action on Centre Court from the front row, seemingly quashing rumours of a royal rift.

UK media has been speculating about a rift between the Cambridges and Sussexes after their joint charity the Royal Foundation was split up.

Kate and Meghan’s husbands were not in tow at the game as the ladies enjoyed a women’s day out at the much-anticipated final between Serena Williams, vying for her 24th grand slam title, and Simona Halep chasing her first Wimbledon crown.

After Williams crumbled to a straight sets defeat, Kate and Meghan joined the crowd in a standing ovation for new champion Halep.

Kate was seen congratulating the Romanian on her win as she came off court.

Serena Williams and Meghan have grown close in recent years, with the 23-time grand slam champion attending the duchess’s wedding in May last year.

“Just having her in general as a friend is great. She’s such a great friend and a great person as well,” Williams said of Meghan after the final.

“Always positive no matter what. It’s so good to have people like that just to know. She’s such a fan of the sport.

“She, too, was happy for Simona. She saw she played unbelievable. That’s just the kind of person she is.”

The two duchesses arrived separately to Wimbledon, with Kate first meeting some female junior players in her role as patron of the All England Lawn and Tennis Club.

British Prime Minister Theresa May was among the famous faces watching the action with the duchesses in the royal box.

Meghan, currently on maternity leave, and Kate also watched the Wimbledon women’s final in 2018, which Serena also lost in straight sets.
