Logies red carpet 2018: Sun-kissed skin and plenty of bling

The last time viewers tuned into an event on the Gold Coast, it was to be visually assaulted by the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony. The Logies red carpet was a chance to restore what we love most about brassy Broadbeach – sun-kissed skin and plenty of bling.

Forget the draughty driveway arrival of Melbourne’s Crown Casino – Australian TV’s night of nights has found a better, brighter and much warmer home.

Metallics, statement sleeves and one-shoulders were the order of the day. It’s now a night dominated by stylists, whereas five years ago Aussie stars gave it a shot themselves and hoped for the best, often with hilarious results.

First up, Gold Logie nominee Amanda Keller. All class in sculptural white. Modern hair and makeup. I’ll give you a gold star already. Please don’t let anyone near you with a sangria.

More highlights.

With a tan straight from Summer Bay and bucket loads of sparkly gorgeousness for actor and reality star, Sam Frost. Sasha was always punching above his weight. Just saying.

Georgie Gardner and Lisa Wilkinson were also stand-outs. A lesson in elegance from these outstanding journalists, who show 3.30am alarms don’t kill your mojo.

Oh Asher Keddie. There’s not much you ever do wrong. Even your husband, Vincent Fantauzzo is gorgeous. Please keep coming to the Logies forever.

Carrie Bickmore with the best plus-one of the night. Love your work and your bump. Sublime hair and makeup.

If you’re a star of the flatscreen, or a reality supernova, Sunday really was your night.

Check out Australian Ninja Warrior’s Jack Wilson. With those Converse shoes, he was bound to be the quickest to scramble the Star balcony to the Nine after-party. Even better if there was a pool.

Clear the path for goddess Olympia Valance in Melbourne designer Con Ilio. I pity and thank the poor person who conjured some serious magic with all those pearls. It’s a work of art. Get thee to the Met Gala stat.

Erin Holland. From the front and from the back, you are a show-stopper in Pallas Couture. Love the navy sparkles and high bun. Happy to see statement sleeves are still on-trend. Just hope they’re not dipped in gravy from the alternate chicken/beef drop for main course.

Colombian-American actor Sofia Vergara could have been the spirit animal for actor and presenter Julia Morris. Va-va-voom in spades. Andy Lee’s partner, Rebecca Harding, was also killing it with her assets. The model was a stand-out in dusty pink with tousled hair. The voluminous dress looked like it weighed a tonne. Girlfriend, you’ve earned an extra Grissini tonight.

Ditto for Kerri-Anne Kennerley. Love the glamorous ode to The Handmaid’s Tale and would really would appreciate your Logies 101 on how to nail a quick trip to the restroom. I’m exhausted just thinking about it and dealing with those cape sleeves that fall to the floor. Blessed be your dry cleaner.

Another lady in red who was hoping for a gold statue – Tracy Grimshaw in Diane Lewis. Hope it fitted into your Bulgari clutch.

It wouldn’t be the Logies without a Hollywood ring-in. After The Voice, Australia can now claim Beyonce’s BFF Kelly Rowland. I love how you’ve used Queensland’s humidity to your advantage, and with all the extra silver material you could have dressed all of the Jonas brothers.

Elyse Knowles. You won the last series of The Block, you have the body and face of a supermodel. In summary, you’d look hot in a garbage bag. A torn one at that. I feel like part of your Toni Maticevski gown was left in a bag on the carousel at Coolangatta Airport, but I’m not sure which.

Silver and sparkles in the blood for these two Queenslanders. Leila McKinnon channelled the Paddle-Pop Lion with some country and western disco hair, shimmering and blinding in Constantina & Louise. Sonia Kruger still has the best pins in TV, thanks to Mariam Seddiq. Top accessories of the night courtesy of Jan Logan.

One shoulder still a classic with newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys calling on her wedding dress designer Rebecca Vallance once again. Love the hair. It will still look ace at 5.30am too. Hopefully this gives you a bit more of a sleep in.

No early start for local girl and former Married at First Sight’s star Cheryl Maitland. Alin Le’ Kal designed her bikini-style dress. Perfect for the Gold Coast enabling you to party and tan at the same time. Genius. For next time Cheryl, this much material is usually reserved for those who are actually nominated. Alternatively, you could steal all the Logies, hide them under your frills and Uber it out of there.
