Katy Perry has extended an olive branch – literally – to fellow pop star Taylor Swift in an effort to end their well-publicised five-year feud.

Swift, 28, shared a video of the special delivery on Instagram on Wednesday, revealing that Perry, 33, had sent an “actual olive branch” to her dressing room.

“So I just got to my dressing room and found this actual olive branch,” Swift said in the video, which showed the branch lying next to a handwritten note.

“This means so much to me,” she added, captioning the video, “Thank you Katy.”

Perry’s note, which came in an envelope sealed with a puppy sticker, began: “Hey old friend.

“I have been doing some reflecting on past miscommunications and hurt feelings between us. I really want to clear the air,” Perry wrote, adding that she was “deeply sorry”.

Swift and Perry became friends in 2009, but had a falling out around 2013 when Perry allegedly stole some of Swift’s backup dancers for her own tour.

It’s believed Swift penned her hugely popular single Bad Blood about her and Perry’s feud, a rumour Swift semi-confirmed in a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone.

“For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,” Swift said of the song’s female subject.

“She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?’ [Then] she did something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies’.

“And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business … She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”

However, Perry told James Corden in 2017 that Swift “started” their feud and “it’s time for her to finish it”.

Perry’s 2017 song Swish Swish was believed to be a response to Bad Blood.

In it, Perry sings: “So keep calm, honey, I’ma stick around for more than a minute, get used to it. Funny my name keeps comin’ out your mouth ’cause I stay winning.”

Swift then returned fire in a track on her latest album titled, Look What You Made Me Do, which included the lyrics: “The world moves on, another day, another drama, but not for me, not for me, all I think about is karma.”

Thankfully, the pair appear to have buried the hatchet just in time for Swift’s Reputation world tour, which kicked off on Tuesday.
