It took nearly seven days after she revealed the shock news she had left the Nine Network for Network Ten, but Lisa Wilkinson has eventually farewelled the Today show via Instagram.

“It’s been a helluva week,” said Wilkinson on the social media platform.

“I’m only sorry that I never got the chance to say goodbye to you all.”

In a visual shout-out to her former co-host Karl Stefanovic – possibly a sign there’s no beef between the pair, despite reports – she posted a throwback photo of the two of them.

“This pic is from Karl’s and my very first publicity shoot way back in May 2007,” said Wilkinson.

“Look at us, we were babies!”

Glaringly absent from the social media tribute, apart from the retro photo with Stefanovic, was any mention of the colleagues or network Wilkinson spent the last ten years working with.

Instead, the gist of the post was to acknowledge the “incredible supportive, engaged, opinionated, clever and wonderfully diverse audience of Today.”

Stefanovic also spoke over the weekend about Wilkinson’s shock October 16 exit from the breakfast show, saying it had “rattled the team” but “we have to get on with it and move forward.”

“We have nothing but love for Lisa,” he said. “But the show is more important than any one person.’

Wilkinson is yet to address reports she defected to Ten after a push for pay parity with Stefanovic failed.

Last week, Nine chief executive Hugh Marks said she rejected a “$1.8 million package” to stay at Today.

“She wanted $2.3 million,” he said.

Wilkinson will start in January as host of the new Sunday edition of The Project.

She will also join the program during the week “to share her insights and expertise”, said Craig Campbell, executive director of production company Roving Enterprises.

As for claims co-host Carrie Bickmore is ticked off that Wilkinson is joining the show on big bucks, the current team is “excited to have the chance to play alongside Lisa,” Mr Campbell told The New Daily.

“We couldn’t imagine how our team could have gotten any better until now.”

Mr Campbell expanded on that theme to The Australian, saying Bickmore and Wilkinson “have been having great conversations on the phone.

“They adore and love each other and there are exciting times ahead,” he added.

Meanwhile, Wilkinson reportedly took time over the weekend to drop by Nine’s Sydney headquarters to tie up loose ends.

“She has been in a few times during the week to clean out her desk and other things,” said a network source.
