Australian singer Shannon Noll has been arrested and charged over an alleged assault of an Adelaide strip club bouncer on Sunday morning.

The former Australian Idol contestant was reportedly involved in an altercation outside Crazy Horse Revue at about 2.30am.

Police confirmed a 41-year-old NSW man had been arrested and charged with two counts of assault, and was bailed to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court in February.

Noll, who is best known for his 2004 platinum-selling single What About Me, had been in South Australia to perform at music festival, Sounds By The River, on Saturday.

Footage has emerged from the incident showing Noll being spoken to by a number of security guards outside the venue.

The video seen on Nine News also shows Noll being pinned down during the arrest.

Witnesses said Noll had been kicked out of the strip club and got aggressive when he was denied re-entry.

“He got really aggressive and kept saying ‘I’m Shannon Noll let me back in to the Crazy Horse’ and then punched a security guard,” a witness told Nine.

Noll has previously spoken publicly about his struggle with drugs and alcohol, telling the Daily Telegraph in 2008 he hit rock bottom after the death of his father in 2001.

“I thought I’d have a crack at everything. I didn’t let myself think about him (his father) when I was smashed. Consequently, I found myself getting smashed a lot.”

He said he gave up drugs for his children.

“I got to a stage where I had to own up to it,” he said. “I’d turned into a zombie on the lounge. I wasn’t doing anything useful.”

Noll has not released an album since A Million Suns in 2011, however his profile has never been stronger in Australia – in particular with young people – thanks to him becoming the target of internet memes.

He released his newest single Who I Am in September last year.
