Lindsay Lohan has snubbed a small British town that invited her to turn on its Christmas lights after she publicly denigrated them for their pro-Brexit vote.

Lohan, 30, took to Twitter to apologise to the people of Kettering, a town in Northamptonshire, England, after scheduling conflicts prevented her from making good on a promise she made to their local MP.

Kettering was one of the towns that overwhelmingly supported Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union, with 61 per cent of its residents voting to leave.

At the time of the referendum in June, Lohan criticised the town, tweeting: “Sorry, but #KETTERING where are you?”

Although Lohan deleted the tweet, her sentiments made it all the way to Parliament where the member for Kettering, Philip Hollobone, defended the town and called on Lohan to atone for her insult.

“Everyone knows where Kettering is,” Mr Hollobone said, inviting other MPs to “support my invitation to Lohan to come and switch on the Christmas lights in Kettering this Christmas, thus redeeming her political reputation.”

Lohan responded on Twitter, encouraging Mr Hollobone to get in touch with her.

“Would be happy to light the Christmas tree”, she tweeted.

However, repeated attempts from the town’s council to lock in a time for Lohan to visit were unsuccessful and the actress took to Twitter on Friday to share an apology video.

“Hi everyone in Kettering, it’s Lindsay Lohan,” she said.

“I really wanted to make it there to light the tree but with my busy schedule I wasn’t able to, but I appreciate the offer. Happy holidays.”

According to a local councillor who spoke to Time magazine, Kettering’s residents aren’t all that torn up about Lohan’s absence.

“I don’t think they give a s**t to be honest,” Maggie Don said.

“They don’t know who she is.”

Instead, Eastenders actress Cheryl Fergison volunteered to do the job.
