Perennial comedy favourite Jerry Seinfeld has announced he will tour Australia for the first time since 1998.

Now 62, the comedy great will tour Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane, with tickets going on sale later this month.

Seinfeld, who co-wrote and starred in his eponymous sitcom from 1989 to 1998, has starred in his web-series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee since 2012.

The comedian is celebrated for his observational humour, and for creating a cast of characters – alongside Larry David – who revelled in mundane (and often selfish) observations about modern life.

By its ninth season, Seinfeld was ready to say goodbye to what has been labelled the greatest show of all time – turning down an offer of $5 million per episode to keep going.

The cast of Seinfeld filled viewers’ living rooms for a decade.

Its finale drew an audience of 76 million viewers in the US alone, while re-runs keep Seinfeld a more-than-comfortable man.

The comedian’s co-creator Larry David went on to create the hit show Curb Your Enthusiasm, while Seinfeld returned to the comedy world, with various stints in Hollywood, including the kid-flick, Bee Movie.

Seinfeld will perform at Perth Arena on August 4; Adelaide Entertainment Centre on August 5; Hisense Arena in Melbourne on August 6; Brisbane Entertainment Centre on August 9 and Sydney ICC Theatre on August 11.

Tickets go on sale November 14.
