Songstress Mariah Carey and mogul James Packer have called off their whirlwind engagement – at least for now.

The singer’s representative confirmed the pair had not seen each other since getting into a fight in Greece, in a statement to US media outlets.

Responding to reports the fracas was related to Carey’s loose purse strings, the rep added: “The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah”.

The rep also found it pertinent to mention that Packer, 49, is “one of the most successful businessmen in the world”.

“They are trying to work it out,” she said of the quarrel.

“Right now, they’re not sure if they will stay together.”

Packer and Carey first surfaced as one of Hollywood’s less-likely pairings in 2015, before becoming engaged January this year.

Post-engagement, Carey hit the campaign trail for her new reality series, flaunting her 35-carat, $A10 million diamond ring in interviews and announcing she believed an ideal marriage included “his and hers yachts”.

Carey was previously married to TV-star Nick Cannon, with whom she shares twins Moroccan and Monroe.

Packer was previously married to model and swimwear designer Jodhi Meares, and model Erica Baxter.
