Fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld has criticised Kim Kardashian for being too flashy with her money following her $US10 million ($A13 million) heist, as the reality TV star’s ordeal continues to dominate Paris Fashion Week.

Chanel’s couturier suggested to the Associated Press that Kardashian was partly to blame for the theft at her private Paris residence, in which she was tied up and robbed of millions of dollars of jewellery.

“(She is) too public, too public — we have to see in what time we live. You cannot display your wealth then be surprised that some people want to share it,” Lagerfeld said after the Chanel show.

“I don’t understand why (Kardashian) was in a hotel with no security and things like this.

“If you are that famous and you put all your jewellery on the net you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room.”

His comments come after Paris police on Tuesday suggested possible imprudence from Kardashian in showing her valuable jewels on social media and a possible lack of security in her private residence.

“Clearly when you have a star like Kim Kardashian who has, I think, more than 48 million followers on Twitter … I think this could have happened abroad just as easily as in Paris,” spokesman Johanna Primevert said.

“It was really the celebrity who was targeted, with possessions that had been seen and noticed via social media, and it was these goods that the attackers targeted.”

Kardashian was reportedly held at gunpoint and later bound and gagged in her Parisian apartment early on Monday morning as robbers walked away with a $US4.5 million ($A6 million) ring and a box containing more than $US6 million ($A7.88 million) worth of jewels.

Police are hunting for five suspects, only two of whom forced their way into the residence.

Her spokeswoman later said the reality TV star was “badly shaken but physically unharmed” from the incident.
