Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has been held at gunpoint by up to five attackers dressed as police officers, forcing husband Kanye West to run off stage mid-show.

A French police source told Reuters that millions of dollars of jewellery was stolen from Kardashian while she sat tied up inside the bathroom of her Paris accommodation on Monday afternoon (AEST).

Other reports claimed the loot was around the $A14.7 million mark.

A spokesperson for Kardashian confirmed the attack to The New Daily in a statement: “Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening, by two armed masked men dressed as police officers.

“She is badly shaken but physically unharmed.”

French news service BFM TV reported that five men dressed as police entered Kardashian’s Paris hotel at around 2:30am local time.

The men entered via the service entrance and threatened the concierge before reportedly handcuffing him. They then bound Kardashian and locked her in the toilet, the report claimed.

A Paris police official told the Associated Press that the assailants, who were still at large, stole a jewellery box containing valuables worth 6 million euros ($A8.8 million) as well as a ring worth 4 million euros ($A5.9 million.)

In a message to AP, the Paris prosecutors’ office confirmed that only two of the five suspects forced their way into the apartment.

The French Interior Ministry said the armed assailants drew a weapon on the concierge, handcuffed him and then forced him to unlock the private accommodation, CNN reported.

At some point Kardashian had a gun held to her head. French police have only confirmed that an incident happened at the address where Kardashian was staying.

The building is under heavy police presence. It is located in the chic eighth district of Paris.

Kardashian has now returned to New York, and has been pictured entering her Manhattan apartment with West.

Meanwhile, video showed the moment rapper West was interrupted by one of his entourage during his show in New York.

“I’m sorry I have a family emergency, I have to stop the show,” West told the audience.

Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo condemned the assault and said Kardashian will “always be welcome in Paris”.

Hidalgo said she is confident police will quickly identify and arrest the suspects and that the incident “in no way calls into question police work or security of public space” in Paris.

Kardashian, who has two children with West, has been in the French capital for Paris Fashion Week along with her mother Kris Jenner, and sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner.

Her children, North, 3, and Saint, 10 months old, were reportedly not caught up in the incident.

In defence of Kim

Late-night television host James Corden tweeted his support for Kardashian as many poked fun at the incident.

The reality star was also harassed by serial celebrity pest Vitalii Sediuk last week.

The Ukrainian attempted to kiss Kardashian’s bottom as she entered a Paris fashion show, but was thwarted by her giant security guard.

Following that incident, Kardashian tweeted her admiration for her security staff.

Kardashian had been in Paris for fashion week where her sister Kendall Jenner was on the catwalk for Givenchy.
