There’s a conspiracy theory about Margot Robbie’s shorts

Margot Robbie’s pants might be the latest victim of Hollywood’s obsession with Photoshop, if internet conspiracists are to be believed.

In a surprising turn of events, it appears as though editors on Robbie’s new film Suicide Squad altered the Aussie actress’s costume in the film to cover more – not less – of her body.

In a trailer shown at Comic-Con in San Diego in July this year, Robbie’s character Harley Quinn is shown walking through a crowd of men wearing shorts that barely cover her derriere.

However, in a television trailer broadcast in the United States the shorts appear to be longer.

One YouTube user put the two clips together in a comparison and the difference was evident:

If you missed it, here are stills from the two trailers side by side:

In an interview with Australian radio station Nova, Robbie said she was unaware of the Photoshop rumours surrounding her costume.

“I didn’t know about that,” the 26-year-old said, “having been there on the day, they were very small.”

Her co-star Cara Delevingne weighed in, saying it was likely the rumours were “100 per cent true”.

“Wow I wonder if they did do that,” Robbie responded. “That would be extensive Photoshopping to do.”

In an interview with the New York Times, Robbie said the skin-baring shorts would not be her first choice but were necessary for her character because they’re “sparkly and fun”.

“As Margot, no, I don’t like wearing that. I’m eating burgers at lunchtime, and then you go do a scene where you’re hosed down and soaking wet in a white T-shirt, it’s so clingy and you’re self-conscious about it,” she said.
