Sydney publicist Roxy Jacenko is preparing to undergo treatment for breast cancer almost three weeks after her husband was sent to jail for insider trading.

The 36-year-old director of Sweaty Betty PR recently discovered a lump in her left breast and the ensuing diagnosis was shocking, she told The Daily Telegraph.

“The timing is extraordinary,” she told the paper.

Last month her husband Oliver Curtis was sentenced to a maximum of two years in prison, to be released after one year on a good behaviour bond.

Ms Jacenko was today set to have a “partial removal” of the lump in her left breast, which she discovered while showering last week. But doctors delayed the surgery yesterday as the cancer “is larger than first suspected, so more testing is required”, she told the Telegraph.

Ms Jacenko speculated on how much the insider-trading case may have added to her stress levels and, therefore, whether it worsened her condition.

“I am heartbroken but the reality of it is if this (Curtis going to prison) hadn’t have happened, there is nothing to say I wouldn’t have got this (cancer),” she told The Telegraph.

“Could this (Curtis’s jailing) have added to it? You know what? I am not going to say no. Of course, I think any added aggro in someone’s life can lead to things like this but it is no fault of Oli’s. It is in my family, mum had it.”
