British Prime Minister David Cameron has dropped a bombshell during his re-election campaign, announcing he is the 13th cousin of American socialite Kim Kardashian.

During an interview with Heat, Mr Cameron was asked if he watched reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians when he confessed he was related to the famous family.

“No, but I’m related to them. Did you know I’m 13th cousins with them?” Mr Cameron said.

According to the Daily Mail, the two are related through their mutual ancestor Sir William Spencer, who was born in 1555.

The 48-year-old admitted there were no plans for a family reunion, but when asked if he fancied one, Mr Cameron said, “that would be great”.

The Conservative leader has been prime minister since 2010 and is campaigning for a second term ahead of the May 7 election.

Kim Kardashian shot to fame in 2007 after a sex tape she made with her then-boyfriend was leaked.

She is now married to rapper Kanye West and is worth an estimated $65 million.

Parodies have already appeared online after the surprising revelation, with media reports saying Mr Cameron should change his name to “David Kameron” to fit in with his infamous relatives.
