Robin Williams faced ‘serious money troubles’

Robin Williams was struggling financially as well as mentally when he took his own life on Monday, new reports have suggested.

“All he could talk about were serious money troubles,” a family friend told Radar Online.

“There was also frustration that Robin expressed at having to take television and movie roles he didn’t want to take, but had to for the pay check.”

Williams had been open about his financial stress in a 2013 interview with Parade magazine, in which he admitted that his two divorces had taken a toll.

“Divorce is expensive,” Williams said. “It’s ripping your heart through your wallet.”

In one of the last known photos of Williams, he appears gaunt and downcast while posing with a fan at a Minnesota ice cream store.

The photo was taken on June 29, around the same time and location where Williams checked himself into rehab for sobriety issues.

Abby Alders, the fan pictured in the photo, admitted to CBS News that she did not immediately recognise the Oscar winner due to his subdued appearance.
