Paul McCartney hospitalised in Japan

Paul McCartney has been forced to cancel his Tokyo concerts due to a debilitating viral infection, his rep has confirmed.

“Since contracting a virus last week that led to the postponement of tour dates, Paul received successful medical treatment at a hospital in Tokyo. He will make a complete recovery and has been ordered to take a few days rest,” a statement on his website said.

“Paul has been extremely moved by all the messages and well wishes he has received from fans all over the world.”

The 71-year-old former Beatle has apologised to his Japanese fans, many of whom have spent hours waiting outside his hotel to catch a glimpse of the star.

“Unfortunately my condition has not improved overnight. I was really hoping that I’d be feeling better today. I’m so disappointed and sorry to be letting my fans down,” he said in a personal statement.

McCartney, who is currently on his international Out There tour, was also forced to postpone a tour stop in Seoul.

The Sankei Sports newspaper in Japan was the first to report the news.
