“You’ll be the Prince and I’ll be the Princess,” Taylor Swift sings in her mega-hit single Love Story. Swift’s wish was granted in full when she got the chance to meet Prince William while attending the Winter Whites charity gala at Kensington Palace on Tuesday night.

Swift, who performed at the gala to benefit William’s favourite charity Centrepoint, benefitting homeless youth, met with the Duke of Cambridge at a reception. The two hit it off.

“He’s very funny, he’s really cool,” Swift told The Daily Mail after meeting the royal. “It’s awesome because when you see someone from afar and you respect the way they carry themselves and then you meet them and they’re funny, that’s a whole different exciting realisation.”

The 23 year-old, who looked elegant in a white crystal gown, was reportedly nervous before her high-profile introduction, confiding to ABC News, “I think I’m just really safe if I just like, shake hands and be polite.”

The event was star-studded, with fellow guests including American rocker Jon Bon Jovi and English crooner James Blunt. Duchess Kate was nowhere to be seen, no doubt at home caring for baby George.
