Sir Les wins Packing Room Prize
A painting of Sir Les Patterson has taken out this year’s Archibald Packing Room Prize.
The portrait, titled Sir Les, is by Tim Storrier.
Dr Sir Leslie Colin Patterson KCB AO is one of Barry Humphries’ favourite characters, and his most politically-incorrect.
Head storeman Steve Peters delivered his verdict on Thursday at the Art Gallery of NSW.
The head storeman’s choice controls 51 per cent of the packing room vote.
Never has the Packing Room Prize coincided with the Archibald judges’ decision.
The Archibald Prize will be decided on July 18.
Storrier took out the 2012 Archibald Prize with a faceless self-portrait.
