‘Banjo’ remembered

This year marks 150 years since the birth of Andrew ‘Banjo’ Paterson.

A former university lecturer in farm management is keen to make sure ‘The Man from Ironbark’ is not forgotten.

Geoffrey W Graham from Victoria travels the country performing the works of the famed bush poet.

His latest shows were performed in a small church hall nestled in the suburbs of Tamworth during the recent Tamworth Country Music Festival.

He says it’s important that Banjo Paterson’s work is remembered.

“This is our heritage.”

Mr Graham says school children can be confused by his performance.

“I like to stay in character the whole time.

“I hear them say to their teachers ‘Is that really Banjo Paterson’?”
