Sydney’s Homebake festival cancelled

The 2013 Homebake festival in Sydney has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

The event championing Australian music was set to celebrate its 18th birthday with appearances by Paul Kelly, Gurrumul, The Presets and Bernard Fanning.

Organisers say they had been forced to change the venue from a one-day festival at the Domain because of a scheduling conflict with another festival.

However the three-day event at the Sydney Opera House proved unappealing to music fans.

In a statement, the organisers say they are cancelling the event “with heavy hearts.”

“Over the last four weeks since the initial launch of Homebake 2013, it has become apparent based on the feedback from social media sites and the box office that the traditional Homebake fans have rejected this change in format,” it read.

The festival was also cancelled in 2010, with organisers citing difficulties securing a solid line up.

Refunds can be obtained through the ticket providers.
