Brownlow Medallist Nat Fyfe has moved to quash doubts about his future at the Fremantle Dockers, dismissing reports he would consider a trade and saying a contract extension will be “sorted” next year.

Fyfe’s current deal with the Dockers runs out after next season, and there had been speculation he could be traded at the end of this year or eventually leave for another club in free agency.

The midfielder recently told Channel Seven he would “look at every possible option” in free agency before deciding his future.

There has also been talk of a rift between Fyfe and some of his teammates.

But Fyfe has told the club’s website his manager will enter into contract discussions with the club at the right time.

“I don’t want there to be any doubt that I see my future here at the Fremantle Dockers,” Fyfe said.

“We have a strong plan in place, with good people … and recent reports that I would consider a trade at the end of the season are completely false.

“My manager, Jason Dover, remains in constant communication with the club and we’ll get something sorted at the right time next year.”

The Dockers have endured a disastrous season, winning just three games after taking out last year’s minor premiership and playing in a preliminary final.

The fallout is set to see several players leave Fremantle at the end of the year, with small forward Hayden Ballentyne saying last week he was open to being traded.

There have already been changes off the field, with president Steve Harris announcing he was stepping down and development coach Peter Sumich leaving the club.

Fyfe focused on injury rehab

But Fyfe said he was focussed on recovering from the broken leg which ended his season – a repeat of the injury he suffered in last year’s finals series.

“I begin running in a couple of weeks and look to play round one next year, as well as driving a standard around the club and continuing to be the leader that I’ve been elected to be,” he said.

It should've been a big day for Matthew Pavlich.

Dockers superstar Matthew Pavlich will bow out of the game this week.

“All my focus is firmly on getting my leg right and getting back to playing my best footy.”

Fremantle CEO Steve Rosich said Fyfe’s comments came as no surprise to the club.

“His comments today should also put an end to recent external speculation that the club would consider trading Nat to another club at the end of the season, which is not something we would entertain,” he said.

Meanwhile Fyfe has called on Dockers fans to pack Subiaco Oval for forward Matthew Pavlich’s final game on Sunday, saying it was a “massive week” for the club.
