Canterbury have embarrassed South Sydney with a 42-12 Good Friday blowout in their eagerly awaited NRL clash at ANZ Stadium.

In front of a crowd of 38,192, the Bulldogs romped to a 32-0 lead by the break and scored first in the second half before clocking off late in the match.

The Rabbitohs, who were without star Sam Burgess and coming off the dreaded five-day turnaround, then scored back-to-back tries to add some respectability to the result.

Bulldogs centre Chase Stanley sealed the win in the 73rd minute.

All the damage was done in a brutal first half that Channel Nine commentator Phil Gould labelled “the most one-sided game we’ve seen in a long, long time”.

It began when Canterbury No.1 Will Hopoate latched on to a Sam Perrett kick in the third minute.

And it was simply wash, rinse and repeat after that, as the Bulldogs forwards rolled through the midfield with worrying ease and gave halves Moses Mbye and Josh Reynolds acres of room to operate.

Centre Josh Morris, in his 200th game, bagged a first-half double, the second of which came when Rabbitohs forward Paul Carter bizarrely attempted to offload in his in-goal.

Morris simply put his hand on the ball for the try.

Mbye, Craig Garvey and Sam Perrett also crossed for points in the opening half-hour, punishing a flat-footed Rabbitohs middle that showed no urgency to stop the rot.

Bulldogs captain James Graham’s 140 metres in the first half alone equalled South Sydney’s entire starting forward pack.

Rabbitohs centre Bryson Goodwin came from the field midway through the second half with a leg injury.
