Veteran trainer Mick Price heads into the $3.5 million Golden Slipper with the two favourites, including undefeated star Extreme Choice.

The colt has so far won the Inglis Nursery at Randwick as well as the Chairman’s Stakes and, most recently, the Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield three weeks ago.

He heads to Rosehill for Saturday’s Group 1 feature as the $3.00 favourite.

And with stablemate Flying Artie – who ran second behind Extreme Choice in the Blue Diamond – not far behind at $5.00, Price predicts both his runners to feature at the business end.

“I’m happy with my two and I think they’ll be very bold towards the finish,” Price told The New Daily.

“Extreme Choice is a quiet little colt, just goes about his business. He’s very good on race day.

“I think he’s spot on and I think he’ll be in the finish.

“Flying Artie’s a good horse, I think the Blue Diamond form will stand up this year.”

Extreme Choice has drawn barrier seven for the big race, with Flying Artie getting barrier five.

Price expects challenges from the James Cummings-trained Good Standing, and also expects Gai Waterhouse to have a big say in the race as always.

Read on for Racing.com journalist Luke Sheehan’s Golden Slipper form guide and tips:

Extreme-Choice.jpg1 – Extreme Choice (Barrier 7 – Form – 1,1,1)

Trainer: Mick Price, Jockey: Craig Newitt

Number one in every sense. Newgate Farm/China Horse Club’s increase of their ownership share in him shows what regard he is held in the long-term. The one to beat.

Flying-Artie2 – Flying Artie (5 – 2,x,1,2)

Mick Price, Damien Oliver

It could be third time lucky for this bloke – it will be his third time racing around a bend, and the first time he hasn’t drawn the carpark. He showed he can handle a battle when fighting on after being speared off track at the top of the straight in the Blue Diamond. That hardness is handy for an often hectic Slipper.

Defcon3 – Defcon (14 – 2,2,1)

Peter Snowden, Brent Prebble

The only Slipper winner to come through the Black Opal Stakes was Catbird (1999). He had excuses in the Silver Slipper – three-wide, no cover – when finishing a half-length behind Astern.

Kiss-and-Make-up4 – Kiss And Make Up (9 – 1,1)

Gai Waterhouse, Kerrin McEvoy

Gai’s leading hope bolted into contention when deflating the Capitalist hype in the Todman. Waterhouse has won six of them, so you can never rule her out, but he goes from having three rivals to 15.

Astern5 – Astern (17 – 1,1)

John O’Shea, James McDonald

Barrier 17 appears a horror draw on face value, but sometimes it pays to be outside the Slipper traffic. The Godolphin colt is in the mix, and importantly has already conquered Rosehill – the leading chance, market-wise, of the five Slipper runners to have won at the track.

Star-Turn6 – Star Turn (11 – 3,1,x,2,5)

Hawkes family, Dwayne Dunn

If the form holds up, he can’t beat Flying Artie – having ran right up to him two starts back over 1100m, but then finishing more than five lengths behind him in the Blue Diamond. He wasn’t touched when winning a trial on Monday, but not sure he beat much.

Capitalist7 – Capitalist (2 – 1,1,1,2)

Peter Snowden, Blake Shinn

The Snowdens have lost a Todman and won a Slipper before. Can Capitalist emulate Sepoy? Time will tell, but odd things can happen with small fields. Prepared to forgive and he’s got a gun draw in barrier two to position where he likes.

Good-standing8 – Good Standing (10 – 2,x,1)

James Cummings, Hugh Bowman

The Cummings name has enjoyed Slipper success four times, and this is James’ first crack. He conceded this probably isn’t the Artie Schiller colt’s last hurrah this prep and will improve over further distance.

Telperion9 – Telperion (12 – 3,x,1,4)

John O’Shea, James Doyle

Swooper who couldn’t reel in Good Standing in the Skyline Stakes. A hot speed and a bit of cover in running would aid his chances.

French-Fern10 – French Fern (13 – 3,1,1)

James Payne, Opie Bosson

The filly has scalped Detective, who in turn has run strongly behind Kiss And Make Up. But her time in winning the Reisling won’t cut it here, so she’d have to improve.

Scarlet-Rain11 – Scarlet Rain (16 – 1,1,1)

Gai Waterhouse, Tommy Berry

The second of Gai’s runners. Like her stablemate, she’s unbeaten. She has led in all three of her racetrack visits, but getting across from 16 is a task. Tommy Berry’s the man to do it, of course, having won aboard Vancouver for Gai from that gate last year.

Calliope12 – Calliope (15 – 1,x,5,1)

John O’Shea, Sam Clipperton

Ticked the Rosehill/1200m box last time out in the Magic Night, but was it good enough time? Last 600m in 35 probably doesn’t cut it for the Godolphin filly. Awkward draw too.

Yankee-Rose13 – Yankee Rose (3 – 1,1,x)

David Vandyke, Zac Purton

The only galloper coming into the $3.5 million feature fresh. Both wins came at Rosehill, but trainer David Vandyke has indicated she’s being aimed for the Champagne.

Sweet-Sherry14 – Sweet Sherry (8 – 1,0,x,6,6)

Brent Stanley, Thomas Huet

Wasn’t the worst run when sixth in the Blue Diamond, but only win has come down Flemington straight on debut.

Honesty-Prevails15 – Honesty Prevails (6 – 1,4)

Rick Worthington, Jason Collett

She has conquered Rosehill, but big query on her running out a strong 1200m.

Quick-feet16 – Quick Feet (1 – 1,7,2)

Peter Snowden, Damian Lane

Sneaks into the final field as Team Snowden’s third runner. The Reisling form doesn’t look good enough.

Moqueen17 – Moqueen (4 – 4,3)

Anthony Cummings, Craig Williams

The first emergency also came through the Reisling. The plus, if she gets a run, is the booking of Slipper-winning jockey Craig Williams.

Luke Sheehan’s tips:

1. Extreme Choice
2. Flying Artie
3. Capitalist
4. Astern
