A weekend game of junior soccer in Maryborough, Queensland was interrupted by a bull charging at players.

Ryan Devenish was there to watch his nephew’s game when the bull started charging, he caught the whole thing on camera.

He said he first spotted the bull when it emerged from the bush near where he was standing.

“It stared at me and actually had a charge at me for about 5 feet and then stopped and turned around and went back in the bush,” Mr Devenish said.

The soccer field at Federation park in Granville is surrounded by paddocks and bushland and it appears the bull found himself on the wrong side of the fence.

Mr Devenish said the bull reappeared during the under 15 game.

“It was going down the sidelines looking for an opening in the fence so it could get back through,” Mr Devenish said.

“I could see it was getting frustrated and I thought something is going to happen here. I started filming again and sure enough that’s when it ran on the field and started chasing that poor young fellow.”

The young player was able to get out of the path of the bull.

“If he wasn’t that fast, or had that good step on him, it could have caught up to him quite easily,” Mr Devenish said.

Fortunately no players or spectators were hurt during the incident and the bull returned to the bush and was not seen again.

Since capturing the charging bull and posting the incident on Facebook, Mr Devenish has been inundated with media requests from around the world.

“It’s been crazy to be honest”, Mr Devenish said.

“I have been getting messages from ESPN sports centre in the US and also NBC news”.

Mr Devenish said after the bull had gone away the game continued.

“I’m sure [the players] would have been looking over their shoulder.

“I’m pretty positive the ref wouldn’t have pulled out his red card after that,” Mr Devenish said.
