Gayle to sue Fairfax over claim
Cricket superstar Chris Gayle is taking legal action over Fairfax Media reports that allege he exposed himself to an Australian woman.
Defamation specialist Mark O’Brien says he will begin proceedings against Fairfax on the West Indian’s behalf.
• Mel McLaughlin breaks her silence
• “Chris Gayle should be sacked”
• ‘Women still not taken seriously’
Gayle is expected to play for the Melbourne Renegades in Saturday’s Big Bash League derby against the Melbourne Stars as the West Indies Cricket Board starts to investigate the claims made by Fairfax.
When the article was published, Fairfax announced it would no long employ the batsman as a columnist.
Controversy erupted on Tuesday night when Gayle propositioned Network 10 presenter Mel McLaughlin live on air.
The Renegades fined Gayle $10,000 for the incident.
Saturday’s clash between the two Melbourne sides is expected to draw a crowd of above 50,000 at Etihad Stadium in Docklands.
