A relieved LeBron James says Jason Day’s wife is “doing great” after the NBA star crashed into her during a game in Cleveland.

Ellie Day was sitting in a courtside seat next to her Australian golfing champion husband on Thursday when James chased a ball heading out of bounds at Quicken Loans Arena.

Ellie, who had the couple’s second child, daughter Lucy, in November appeared to take the full impact of the 203cm tall, 113kg James.

The game between James’ Cleveland Cavaliers and the Oklahoma City Thunder was stopped for several minutes, she was placed in a neck brace and carried to an ambulance on a stretcher.

James and several of his teammates went over to check on Ellie as she was being treated by medical staff and she re-assured him she was OK.

“She squeezed my hand, said she was fine,” James said, according to Cleveland.com.

“I think she was just a little weary.

“For me, obviously, her health is very important and hopefully she is doing well.

“The guys told me she’s doing great now. “For me, just going for a loose ball, tried to keep the possession going, I just hate that that was the end result.”

Jason Day and his family live just outside Columbus, Ohio and the golfing superstar has attended Cavaliers games in the past.

The world No.2 is currently in the midst of a lengthy off-season.

Day claimed his maiden major in August at the US PGA Championship before claiming the world No.1 ranking off the back of wins at The Barclays and BMW Championship.

American Jordan Spieth has since reclaimed the top spot.

Cavaliers head coach David Blatt said after the match James “made an honest attempt” at the basketball, suggesting the fault lay with the court-level seats.

“It’s always concerned me, the sideline seats,” he said.

“When you’re talking about players of this speed and physicality and effort level, it’s not a simple thing.

“The powers that be are the ones that really need to decide how to deal with that.”

Cleveland beat the Thunder 104-100.
