Cristiano Ronaldo opens up on ‘personal problems’

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed “personal problems” are to blame for his uncharacteristically patchy form this season.

The Sun reported Ronaldo told Antena 3: “I have been below my level.

“You have to take into account that I have had some personal problems.

“I would prefer to keep them to myself — but I am in a better place now.”

Ronaldo, 30, still broke the record for goals in the UEFA Champions League group stage on Wednesday (AEDT), however he has been unusually inconsistent in other competitions.

This has added to poor domestic form being shown by his team, Spanish giants Real Madrid.

They sit third on the table, four points behind leaders and rivals Barcelona.

Ronaldo also quashed rampant rumours suggesting he and Real Madrid coach Rafa Benitez had been feuding.

“It’s only speculation. These rumours surface every year, but I am happy here,” Ronaldo said.

“It is normal to be criticised, at a club like Real Madrid, when things don’t go well.

“We have to give Benitez time. He is doing a good job and is adapting well to Real Madrid.

“I have a good relationship with him, as do all other players.”
