Essendon email leak sees contacts distributed

An error has resulted in the personal contact information of prominent Essendon Football Club members being emailed to hundreds of past player association members.

The leak occurred last Friday morning, with one affected member telling the Herald Sun that mistakes of this kind “shouldn’t happen”.

Personal phone numbers and addresses of the Essendon Women’s Network, Essendonians, Collins Street Dons, Red & Blacks, Lawdons and the Dick Reynolds Club were all distributed.

It is believed the contacts were meant to have been emailed to players association officials, not members.

“There’s a level of disappointment that it has happened because obviously we’ve got a lot of (prominent) individuals in those coterie groups that I think would be very disappointed if they found out that their private information had been distributed,” the coterie member told the Herald Sun.

The leak occurred mere hours after Essendon announced new governance programs, as part of its aim to let members reshape the troubled club.

Essendon has, of course, been dogged by the ongoing supplements saga, which first came to light in February 2013.

The Bombers won just six matches this year and parted company with coach James Hird, with John Worsfold his replacement for the 2016 season.
