Socceroos fans in Jordan for Friday morning’s (AEDT) World Cup qualifier have been advised not to wear the nation’s green and gold colours to the stadium.

Australian supporters reported notices in their hotels warned them not to wear their colours for the game on the off-chance of violence at the Amman International Stadium, which is expected to be at capacity.

The Socceroos players arrived at their hotel in Amman with military officers present and an armed vehicle.

Last time Australia played in Amman, they lost 2-1 in September 2012, and players spoke of a hostile atmosphere.

Despite the tense arrival, Australian staff and players reported they’d been happy with their time in the country so far.

Travelling supporters have also been stung with grossly inflated ticket prices.

According to Fairfax Media, Australians have been sold tickets that are 1600 per cent more expensive than ones sold to Jordanians.

Australians were only given the option to buy $100 AUD tickets, while Jordanians could purchase theirs for as little as $6 AUD.

“We don’t understand why the Jordan FA would want to charge the equivalent of $100 for Australian fans and $6 for locals,” Australian supporter Pablo Bateson told Fairfax Media.

“We don’t mind premium to normal prices yet not to such a gross extent. Regardless, we are enjoying our stay here in Amman and the hospitality offered by local people.”
