Man casually strolls onto Formula One track

Singapore Grand Prix race drivers and team officials have labeled a man who casually strolled onto the track during the race as “crazy” and a “nutcase”.

According to reports, the man, 27, gained entry to the Marina Bay Street Circuit and prompted a second safety car period during the race.

He was later arrested after Sunday night’s stunt (local time).

Race leader and eventual winner Sebastian Vettel was one of the first to spot the man.

“There is a man on the track. A man on the track,” Vettel shouted over the Ferrari team radio after turn 13, Russia Today reported.

Seconds later a safety car was called out which slowed down all the drivers for safety precautions.

Thankfully that man was on the opposite side of the racing line, reducing danger to himself and drivers.

He then spotted an opening in the fence, leapt over a railing near a track marshall’s post and disappeared out of view.

“I think I saw him take a picture,” Vettel said post-race.

“I hope it was a good one at least, in focus.

“It was pretty crazy – we are approaching that corner at 280km/h.

“I don’t know, maybe we need to block the grandstand a bit better. Fortunately nothing happened to me or to him.”

Questions have arisen about how the man got onto the track in the first place.

Governing body FIA said it would request a full report from grand prix organisers about the incident.

Sebastian Vettel recovered from the track invasion to win the Grand Prix, with Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo finishing second.
