Manchester City has kicked off its Australian tour in winning style, with a 2-0 win over Adelaide United in Robina.

City trotted out a young group, with none of the nine players who arrived on the Gold Coast on Tuesday considered for selection.

Thompson signs on for 11th A-League season

Brandon Barker weaved through the defence and unleashed a searing shot past Eugene Galekovic for his first goal at senior level just after the hour mark, before Bruno Zuculini iced the win in the 84th minute when he tapped in off a Gael Clichy cross.

But it was not all one-way traffic as the Reds narrowly missed taking an early lead on two occasions.

After just two minutes of play, Sergio Cirio sent in a cross but Bruce Djite just missed at the back post.

A minute later, a last-ditch effort by Willy Caballero was all that stopped Awer Mabil making it 1-0 to the A-League side.

The English Premier League giants faced off against Adelaide behind closed doors on the Gold Coast ahead of their clash with ‘little brother’ Melbourne City at the same venue on Saturday.
