Chris Rogers has been ruled out of Australia’s second Test in the West Indies due to the symptoms of concussion.

The left-handed Rogers, who turns 38 in August, was hit on the helmet while batting in the nets prior to the series opener.

He was replaced by Shaun Marsh for the Dominica match, which Australia won by nine wickets and inside three days, but was expected to return for the second and final Test, which begins in Jamaica on Friday morning (1am AEST).

Cricket Australia team doctor Peter Brukner said on Wednesday that Rogers had not returned to full fitness though.

“Chris has improved, but he is still not 100 per cent so we are restricting his training (and) therefore he is unavailable for selection for the second Test,” Brukner told Cricket Australia’s official website.

“While most concussions resolve within a week there is a significant number who remain symptomatic and require a longer period of recovery.

“Unfortunately Chris is in this category.

“We will continue to monitor his progress and hopefully it will not be too long before he is back to full training.”

Marsh will again deputise for Rogers in the Test, which will serve as Australia’s last before the Ashes begin in Cardiff on July 8.
