West Coast Eagles have won their fifth match in a row, defeating St Kilda by 53 points at Docklands to pull within a game of league leaders Fremantle.

The Eagles started strongly and although they were challenged in the second half, they stood firm to win by 20.11 (131) to 12.6 (78).

The visitors were unstoppable in the opening term, kicking seven goals to one to take a 37-point lead at quarter time.

But just when the home side was being written off, the Saints found a way to reverse the momentum, and goals to Maverick Weller, Josh Bruce, Jack Sinclair and Eli Templeton brought them back into the match.

As the Eagles began to struggle under sustained pressure, the Saints kept going, and another major to Dylan Roberton before half-time made the margin just 12 points to the Eagles at the main change.

In a see-saw third quarter, the Saints pulled within nine points when Sinclair kicked his second of the game at the 12-minute mark.

Luke Shuey and Matt Priddis then scored steadying goals for the Eagles, and then a trio of majors deep in time-on to Elliott Yeo, Josh Kennedy and Josh Hill gave the Eagles a 31-point lead going into the final quarter.

West Coast went on to kick five goals to two in the final term to seal the victory.

The Eagles are now on six wins, one behind the Dockers, who will play the Kangaroos at Subiaco Oval on Saturday night.

The Saints remain on two wins for the season.
