McGuire blasts “beyond the pale” WADA

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has labelled WADA’s request to hold it’s appeal against the AFL Anti-Doping Tribunal’s finding on Essendon in Switzerland as “beyond the pale” and “narky”.

It emerged yesterday that the World Anti-Doping Agency wanted the hearing to be held in Switzerland, where the headquarters for the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) – the body that will hear the appeal – is based.

Speaking on his breakfast radio show on Triple M, McGuire blasted the body and said it would be much easier for the hearing to take place in Australia.

“Why wouldn’t you send two people over here and hold it in Australia?” he said.

“If you want to get away from the AFL influence, do it in Sydney. That seems to me to be really narky and beyond the pale as far as I’m concerned.”

The decision on where the hearing will be staged will come after a sitting panel has been determined by the CAS.

Fairfax Media reports that lawyers for the 34 past and present Essendon players involved will object to the hearing taking place overseas.
