Sydney FC prevail in seven-goal thriller

Sydney FC have prevailed in a goalfest against Newcastle Jets, winning 4-3 at Hunter Stadium.

A deceptive first half finished 1-0 in Newcastle’s favour after Enver Alidovic opened the scoring, but the second half proved much more fruitful.

Alex Brosque scored the first of his two goals just minutes after the resumption of play, before Bernie Ibini handed his team the lead four minutes later.

Brosque grabbed his second only four minutes later with Sydney FC seemingly cruising, before Edson Montano scored for the Jets to make it interesting again.

When Andrew Hoole took his chance from the penalty spot, the Jets had equalised but it proved to be for nought when Robert Stambolziev popped up in the box to seal the win.

The three points keeps Sydney FC in the race for the Premier’s Plate.

More to come.
