Bernard Tomic is closing in on his highest world ranking after moving up six spots to No.29 on Monday.

The Australian has had an ultra-consistent start to the year, making six quarter-finals or better.

His last eight appearance at the highly rated Indian Wells Masters tournament, where he beat then world No.8 David Ferrer, moved him to within two places of his best ranking of No.27 achieved in 2011.

Tomic has skipped this week’s Miami tournament, the Gold Coaster citing a problem with his wisdom teeth and some back issues for pulling out of the California quarter-final against eventual winner Novak Djokovic.

If Tomic can stay in the top 32 for the next two months he’ll earn a seeding for the French Open, avoiding the top players for the first two rounds of the tournament.

It was a good rankings week for the Australians with rising star Thanasi Kokkinakis moving up 16 spots to No.108 off the back of his round of 16 loss at Indian Wells to Tomic.

Injured Nick Kyrgios remains steady at No.37, Sam Groth is No.69, Marinko Matosevic is No.76 and James Duckworth cracks the top 100 for the first time at No.97.

Samantha Stosur remains Australia’s top women’s player at No.26 while Casey Dellacqua has slipped seven spots to No.42.
