Wanderers settle pay dispute

The Western Sydney Wanderers have resolved their pay dispute with the playing group just days out from their first FIFA World Club Cup match.

The Wanderers’ players had threatened to boycott the tournament if they could not reach an agreement regarding their cut of the prize money, but ahead of Sunday morning’s (AEDT) clash with Cruz Azul the club revealed the feud has been settled.

A club statement indicated both parties would now commit to focussing on the match ahead.

“The club and players are united in their focus to proudly represent their members, sponsors, the Western Sydney community and Australian football as a whole in the FIFA Club World Club in Morocco,” the statement read.

“The terms of resolution will remain confidential and no further comment will be made in relation to this matter by either party.”

Meanwhile, the Asian champions have been drawn alongside bitter rivals Guangzhou Evergrande in the group stage of next season’s Asian Champions League.

The Wanderers knocked the highly-fancied Chinese side out at the quarter-final stage of this season’s tournament.

In the 2015 tournament the Wanderers will also face the winner of a yet to be determined playoff and Japan’s third entrant.

Brisbane Roar drew alongside South Korean team Suwon Bluewings and Japan’s second qualifier as well as the winner of a playoff.

Central Coast Mariners have to win a qualifier to progress to the group stage.

If they win that they will be grouped with Korean side Seongnam FC, Japanese champions Gamba Osaka and Thai side Buriram United.
The dates for the matches are yet to be released.
