Jarryd Hayne visits NFL clubs

Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne has begun a US west coast tour of NFL clubs, with visits this week to the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.

Parramatta fullback Hayne shocked the rugby league world with his decision in October to quit the NRL and fly to the US in an attempt to score a contract in America’s multi-billion dollar NFL.

He has been training in secret in southern California and according to multiple US media reports, Hayne was at the 49ers training facility on Monday and the Seahawks on Tuesday.

Jarryd Hayne sets a new benchmark for courage

US website nationalfootballpost.com first reported the 49ers and Seahawks visits.

The Seattle Times reported on Tuesday “the likely scenario here is that Hayne will hold some workouts and then maybe sign with an NFL team after the season, when rosters can expand from their current 53 (plus practice squad, etc.) to the 90 that is allowed for training camp”.

“What is also likely is that you will hear about Hayne visiting lots of other teams,” Seattle Times columnist Bob Condotta wrote.

“So for now, while it’s interesting that Hayne paid Seattle a visit, I’d hold off anointing him a Seahawk.”

Asked in October about Hayne’s move to quit the NRL and seek a career in NFL, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the Seahawks were interested.

“He’s an incredible athlete and a great competitor, so we’ll see where it goes,” said Carroll at a media conference.
