Female basketballers have slammed the ABC’s decision to end 35 years of WNBL coverage, saying it could rob the league of sponsors.
Australian basketballer Lauren Jackson said women’s sport was a “sacrifical lamb” as part of the ABC’s forced budget cuts, according to a Fairfax report.

“It’s a huge shame and I hope it doesn’t end up being the case because ABC has been such a huge supporter of women’s sport,” Jackson said.
“I would say it’s a very dark day for women’s sport. It’s a huge mistake I believe.”
Jackson said the WNBL would lose young players to netball as well as funding from sponsors.
The ABC will also cease live broadcasting of W-League football.
