Joy for Magpies as another Moore joins ranks

Collingwood has secured exciting teenage tall Darcy Moore as AFL clubs keep it in the family by selecting all nominated father-son picks.

In the brightest bit of post-season news for the Magpies, the son of two-time Brownlow medallist Peter Moore will don the black and white stripes next season.

Moore, 18, is a 199cm key position player who captained 2014 TAC Cup winners Oakleigh Chargers.

With Sydney academy Isaac Heeney, who will be drafted by the Swans, Moore represents the most promising youngster available under father-son and academy nominated players.

The Monday morning meeting of AFL clubs decided the fate of five father-son nominations and seven academy selections to kick off the competition’s trade period.

Along with Magpie signing Moore, Alec Waterman will be drafted by father Clive’s side West Coast, while Melbourne will add Bill Stretch – son of Steven – to their 2014 list.

Gold Coast list manager Scott Clayton – who played 160 games with Fitzroy – will see his son Josh head to Brisbane.

The Western Bulldogs will also draft Zaine Cordy, the son of Brian Cordy, joining his brother Ayce.

Collingwood were made to pay top price for Moore, who attracted interest from the Western Bulldogs.

Under AFL draft rules, clubs must match any selections made by rival clubs for their father-son or academy picks with their next available selection.

With the Bulldogs bidding for Moore with draft pick five, the Magpies were forced to use their first-round pick – number eight – to secure the key position talent.

Heeney, rated as a top five draft prospect, will be selected by Sydney with their first-round selection after Melbourne bid its own first-round pick of number two.

Jack Hiscox will also stay in the harbour city, with Abina Davis completing a trio of players to graduate from the Sydney academy.

Hiscox wowed at draft testing, smashing a long-standing 3km time-trial record and topping the beep test results.
